This year's SEETEST Social Event is heading to one of Ljubljana's most beloved venues: Bistro Švicarija, tucked among the trees of Tivoli Park just above the historic Tivoli Mansion and only a short walk from the Jakopič Promenade.

The building has been a gathering place for the city for nearly two centuries. It started out as a wooden guest house built in the "Swiss" alpine style for a Habsburg field marshal, and was rebuilt in its present form in 1910 as a hotel that still evokes the feel of the Julian Alps in the middle of Ljubljana. Over the decades that followed, it became a favorite haunt of the city's artists, writers, and bohemians - among them the Slovenian writer Ivan Cankar - and after the Second World War, many of Slovenia's leading artists set up studios within its walls.

Declared a cultural monument in 2013, Švicarija today operates as part of the International Centre of Graphic Arts, with working artist studios and an international residency program on its upper floors. Its ground-floor bistro carries the building's old spirit forward as a warm, welcoming spot where generations of locals have come to relax, catch up over a coffee, and soak in a bit of bohemian city life.
